‘Watchmen’ Casting News

July 9, 2007

billy-crudup.gifCHUD is reporting today that Billy Crudup has been cast as Dr. Manhattan in Zack Synder’s Watchmen. Their report reads:

A very reliable source tells me that Snyder has settled on Crudup for the role of Watchmen’s only super-powered character, a scientist who accidentally gets annihilated on an atomic level and reconstructs himself into a big, naked, blue, floating demigod.

This is still speculation at this point, but they seem pretty confident about the news.  I imagine we’re going to get first hand news about casting during the Warner Bros. event at SDCC in a couple of weeks.

‘Watchmen’ Looking To Cast Look-Alikes

July 3, 2007

jfk.gifAccording to Coming Soon, the LA Times is reporting that the production of Watchmen, which is being helmed by is wanting to cast look-alikes of a lot of famous people:

A challenging casting task involving look-alikes is under way for Warner Bros.’ “Watchmen” adaptation of Alan Moore’s 1980s graphic novel set in an alternative universe’s United States. Names include Richard Nixon, Henry Kissinger, H.R. Haldeman, Ted Koppel, John McLaughlin, Annie Liebowitz, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Fidel Castro, Albert Einstein, Norman Rockwell, JFK and Jackie Kennedy, Andy Warhol, Mao Tze Tung and Larry King. That’s going to be quite a movie.

As of now, no one has even been officially announced for any of the led roles. I wonder if they’re only looking to use big name actors as the look-alikes or if this is putting the word out to anyone who might resemble these people. I could probably only pass for Fidel and even thats a stretch.

Thomas Jane Talks ‘Watchmen’

June 28, 2007

thomasjane.gifShockTillYouDrop got a chance to chat with actor Thomas Jane about his upcoming directorial debut The Dark Country. Of course the conversation shifted gears and the actor was asked about the rumors concerning him being casted as the Comedian in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen.

“Is it on the Internet?” Jane asks. Yessir, Tom. It’s out there. “Yeah,” the actor responds in a slow drawl. “I’m staying quiet about it. I know that Zack’s interested and that’s a great compliment.”

If you want to check out more of the interview on The Dark Country, check it out here.

Updated Roster Rumor’s For ‘Watchmen’

June 25, 2007

watchmen.gifI’ve been reporting to you a lot lately about Zack Snyder’s adaptation of Watchmen with all the various casting rumors and all that jazz.  Now filmick has posted a roster list of actors and roles they are to be playing in the movie.  There isn’t any confirmation about any of this list really, so take it with a grain of salt. Here’s the list:

Kate Winslet as Silk Spectre
Patrick Wilson as Night Owl
Jason Patric as Dr. Manhattan
Jude Law as Ozymandias
Thomas Jane as The Comedian
Jeremy Irons as Moloch
Virginia Madsen as Sally Jupiter
Jonah Hill as Seymour
Henry Gibson as Mr. Figure
William Fichtner as Detective Fine
Noah Emmerich as Captain Metropolis
Gretchen Mol as Janey Slater

Again, I’m not confirming this nor is anyone else, but it’s an interesting list.  Also if this is true, there seems to be a reunion of some of the Little Children cast.  I’ll keep you up-to-date on any new developments

Cowboy and Indians and…Aliens? Oh My

June 21, 2007

cowboysaliens.gifThat title isn’t deceiving, there is in fact a movie in the works with all of those things.  Variety is reporting that the graphic novel Cowboys and Aliens, created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, is being adapted for the big screen.  Their description sums it up best:

The graphic novel mixes Western and science fiction genres. Set in 1800s Arizona, a skirmish between cowboys and Apaches is interrupted by the crash landing of a space ship. The alien commander plans to tame the Old West and enslave everyone, but the cowboys and Native Americans turn their six-guns against the alien invaders.

I can’t help but be a little excited about this one, the concept is just so intriguing to my inner youth.  I realize that at this point there is not writer, director, or cast members, but who doesn’t love Cowboys and Indians!

He joins James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie, among others.

Wilson Confirms Nite Owl? And Other Casting Rumors…

June 18, 2007

wilson.gifIn an interview with Coming Soon.net/Superhero Hype!, actor Patrick Wilson has pretty much said he’s accepted the offer to play Nite Owl in Zack Synder’s Watchmen. Now, he doesn’t actually come out and confirm it, but if you look at his approach to answering the interviewers questions, well….you decide:

SHH!: Totally, and if it is true you’d be a good fit for that role, if you were hypothetically to play it.
Wilson: (sarcastic) If by chance I did have… when does your story run?
SHH!: Probably a couple weeks.
Wilson: Oh yeah, well by then I would imagine there might be… I mean, I would blab my mouth ’cause I certainly haven’t been told to keep quiet. It’s just out of respect for them trying to get everybody else on board before I go ahead and blab my mouth, but it’s pretty cool. It’s exciting stuff.

Of course thats just a small snippet of the actual interview, but based on that…anyway.  In other casting news: AICN is reporting that Jason Patric is now being sought to play Dr. Manhattan; Coming Soon is reporting that Jackie Earle Haley has supposedly been cast as Rorschach; and then at various sites there’s talk of Billy Crudup, Thomas Jane, Ron Pearlman, and Nathan Fillian have all been talked about to play various roles, some that may have already been filled by other people.  I’ll do my best to keep you up to date on new developments.
