Aronofsky To Helm ‘The Fighter’

July 9, 2007

aronofsky.gifI heard about this boxing biopic called The Fighter a couple of months ago.  Some really great boxing films already exist (Raging Bull for example) and I can’t help but wonder if anyone would care to see another. Me personally, I don’t mind as long as there is a good story to be told. At that point, it was rumored that Darron Aronofsky would direct the film which is about “Irish” Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) and his trainer/brother (Matt Damon).

But now, while talking with MTV Movie Blog, Wahlberg has all but confirmed that Aronofsky is indeed directing the film. “I talked to him [Aronofsky] on the phone two days ago. We’re going to sit down with Matt and just figure out when we can start it.”

Wahlberg seems to be pretty confident about the movie, even though it is still in early pre-production. “If it ain’t gonna be like “Raging Bull,” then it ain’t worth doing,” he exclaimed. “These guys, they have the story. Their lives are incredible. The things that they went through, and the things that they overcame and endured. It’s one of those amazing stories that I hope I get an opportunity to tell in my career. It’s going to be one of them gems.”

I mean that should get you kind of excited to see this one. To me it seems kind of early to be talking up the film. Cause if for some reason it ends up flopping, everyone will be going back to quote this interview. I expect good things, though. Great leading cast and an amazing director to boot. Maybe it could be the next Raging Bull?

Two Movies Get New Posters

July 9, 2007

the-comebacks.gifTime to start the day off with some poster exclusives.  Well, I guess they’re online exclusives anyway.  I’ve actually seen this first one at my local movie theater already.

The film is The Comebacks, which is about a football coach with the worst record in sports history, played by the hilarious David Koechner, as he vows to turn things around with a new group of recruits made up of losers and misfits.  It is more or less a spoof of all those feel good sports films.  I’m actually surprised Will Ferrell isn’t involved since he’s been all about sports comedys with several of his past works.  Anyway, if you want to check out the fill version of this poster, click on over to Coming Soon.

The next poster is for Australian release of a new horror film.  About a crocodile.  Again.  I don’t know really see the interest in these movies anymore.  I’m mean sure maybe the first few of its kind were scary, but you can only do so much with the subject before it becomes boring and lame.  This one is called Rogue and it’s basically about this American journalist, on assignment somewhere in the Australian outback, that encounters this ‘rogue’ crocodile.  The poster for it is here.  It’s got a very Jaws-esque feel to it.  It will premiere in the States in October of this year.

‘Resurrecting’ Trailer and Poster

June 20, 2007

champthumb.gifLooks like there’s another boxing movie coming out, but Resurrecting the Champ isn’t your run of the mill sports flick.  The film stars Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Hartnett in the story which appears to be about a reporter who runs into a homeless man and discovers that he was at one time a great well known boxer.  He writes a story about the guy but then it seems like he opens up can of worms.  At least that’s my take based on the trailer.  There is also some subplot about him reevaluating his relationship with his family.  Also the tag line on the poster says, “Based on a true story, that was based on a lie.”  This one seems kind of all over the place, but I’m still intrigued to see it.

Now you can check out the brand new poster here, and I’m including the trailer after the break.
