Weekend Roll Call: 7-9-07

July 8, 2007

transformer logoThe carousel that is the number one box office spot continues again this week, to absolutely no one’s surprise. The robots won the holiday weekend and won big. There weren’t too many surprises this weekend, so it shouldn’t take me too long to go over the numbers. Game on. (more…)

Bay Talks Sequel As ‘Transformers’ Grosses $65.5 Mil.

July 5, 2007

mikebay.gifAfter only two and a half days, and after setting a Tuesday box office record and coming in third for the highest-grossing Wednesday, Transformers has totaled $65.5 million in earnings.  The film has been getting some bashing from the critics but fans are eating it up.  We could see some big numbers by the end of the week.

There is also this interview with Michael Bay from Entertainment Tonight.  In the interview,  Bay was asked about a sequel and this is what he had to say:

How are you sitting with the idea of directing another Transformers movie?
Let’s see how this one does. I’ve got a lot of ideas for the next one. There’s a lot of really cool, big robot stuff that I had in my head that we didn’t do. I just want to see how this works. You might not grow as much as a director [to do a sequel]. But it’s kind of like you have your baby and you don’t want someone else to take it.

I’m not sure when this interview took place, but it seems like it might have been before the movie’s release.  I would almost guarantee he’s ready to do another after seen how well the first is doing already.

Shape Shifting Robots Set New Tuesday Record

July 4, 2007

bumblebee2.gifTransformers opened Monday night in theaters across the country for an 8pm showing. It managed to gross $8.8 million that first night. Day 2 saw a dramatic increase that ended with the film grossing $27.5 million and securing it a new record for most money earned on a Tuesday — it beat Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chests $15.7 record from last year.

The combined two day (really only 28 hrs) total comes to $36.4 million. Wow. This thing is going to make a ton of money. Not that I’m surprised, it is a pretty entertaining movie.

Weekend Preview

July 4, 2007

Transformers PosterWell this is it ladies and gentlemen. This is THE big movie weekend. Independence Day is here, and it brought it’s friends, hot dogs and the long movie weekend.

Since most films are making their debut tomorrow (technically today, as you may be watching them as I type this), I thought I would put up the weekend preview a little early. This week our guests will be a definite bomb about a Ca-razy Priest and some far fetched nonsense about cars that can turn into fighting robots. (more…)

Weekend Roll Call: 7-2-07

July 1, 2007

RataouilleThe month of July has arrived, and mice ride high on the wave of blockbusters it ushers in. John McClane takes the number two spot by force, and all the other movies roll over as one falls out like a nursery rhyme (you kids remember that one right?) (more…)

Weekend Roll Call: 6-25-07

June 24, 2007

Evan and GodWe’ve got two new movies in the top two this week. Steve Carell’s Noah story takes the top spot, and a movie I knew very little about hits me with a powerful right cross and sends whatever box office predicting skills I thought I had to the mat.

Weekend Preview

Evan AlmightyThis week brings us to a pretty big weekend for new movies. On top of the already crowded field of hits currently in theaters, Hollywood attempts to add a few more into the mix. A Sam Jackson thriller, a highly anticipated drama, a promising indie, and a comedy of Biblical proportions. That’s a lot of ground to cover, so let’s get on it.
