Weekend Roll Call: 6-18-07

Silver SurferWell, another week another new Box Office champ. This week Jessica Alba and the spandex four save the world and take down Danny Ocean and his 11 (12? 13?) member entourage of crafty con-men.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer pulled in theater goers to the tune of $57.4 million this weekend. The boys (and girl) in blue rose above Ocean’s 13 which came in a distant second with $19.1 million.

Knocked Up came in third this week with $14.5 million as Johnny Depp and Pirates fell to number four with $12 million. I predicted that one wrong last week. I’m glad to see Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen’s comedy in the number three spot. The longer it makes money the longer I have to actually get to a theater to see the thing.

Bringing in the number five spot is the surfing penguin mockumentary Surf’s Up. Box office sensation Shia Lebouf, Jon Heder and flock made more money than I did this weekend with 9.3 million. Surf’s Up pushed Shrek the Third out of the top five although it brought in 9.2 million.

Entertaining movies are plentiful at this time of year, so if you’re looking for something to watch this weekend there should still be something out there for your tastes. The most expensive comedy ever made comes out this weekend as well, so let’s get out there and help the folks behind Evan Almighty make up some of those production costs.

1. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer – $57.4 million

2. Ocean’s Thirteen – $19.1 million

3. Knocked Up
– $14.5 million

4. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End $12 million

5. Surf’s Up – $9.3 million
